Cyprus is the third biggest island in the Mediterranean, after Sicily and Sardinia, and iis located west of Israel, south of Turkey and north of Egypt. The North part of Cyprus, TRNC, is ‘A corner of earth touched by heaven!’ covering an area of 3,355 square kilometers. TRNC offeres wonderfully clean beaches, Luxurious hotels, Stunning scenary and traditional Cypriot restaurants offering an intimate atmosphere and some delicious local Turkish Cypriot meals which must be tried! Significant geographic features of TRNC include the ‘Five Fingers’ mountain range in the north of Cyprus stretching from west of Sadrazamkoy, Kyrenia all the way until the tip of the Karpas Peninsula. The beautiful Five Finger Mountain range is located very close to the sea shore and runs parallel to the east- west coast line of Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus, is covered with pine, carob and olive trees and verdant valleys fringed with golden beaches stretching for miles. The magnificent history of Cyprus, over 10,000 years long, has seen civilizations come and go ranging from Alexander the Great to Aphrodite. Throughout history, Cyprus has been the crossroad of many great civilizations. It's strategic location between Europe, The Middle East and Africa along with its ideal situation on the ancient trade routes, made Cyprus a very attractive place to the powerful empires in various eras of history. During this long Cypriot history, its powerful neighbors inevitably over took Cyprus as they periodically ruled the Eastern Mediterranean.
Local time is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) from September to April, and 3 hours ahead of GMT from April to September. The time is always 2hrs in front of London
The population of Nothern Cyprus numbers at 200,000 according to the 1998 census, Northern Cyprus is a secular state with no offical religion , although 98% of the population are Muslims. |
